TESSA

Next PR selected TESSA, a Colorado-based nonprofit empowering survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking, as its 2026 Conscious Capitalism partner to raise awareness of its new presence in Douglas County Colorado and connect more survivors and community members to critical resources.

THE CHALLENGE

TESSA recently expanded its survivor-centered, trauma-informed services into new communities, including the opening of its safehouse in Douglas County. The nonprofit needed a strategic communications program to build awareness and trust, elevate its spokespeople and help survivors, donors, volunteers and community partners understand the full scope of resources available at TESSA.

The sensitive nature of TESSA’s mission required a thoughtful approach. Next PR needed newsworthy opportunities that respected survivors’ experiences, while working in a local media environment where awareness alone didn’t always generate coverage. TESSA’s limited corporate LinkedIn activity created an additional opportunity to establish a consistent presence among donors, partners and funding stakeholders.

HOW WE GOT THERE

Next PR built a two-part strategy that leveraged media relations and LinkedIn support.

The team strategically tied outreach to seasonal conversations, including the increase in domestic violence during summer, the back-to-school “Red Zone,” Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This approach positioned CEO Anne Markley as an educational, prevention-focused expert who can explain warning signs, barriers to safety and the resources available to survivors and their communities. The team targeted reporters and podcasts in Colorado Springs and Denver that aligned with TESSA’s expertise.

Alongside media outreach, Next PR conducted a TESSA social media audit and drafted a steady stream of LinkedIn content. The posts highlighted TESSA’s services, community partnerships, volunteer opportunities and major fundraising and awareness initiatives, including Pasta in the Park, Bleating Heart Night and Digital Realities.

THE RESULTS

Together, Next PR’s media and social strategies increased TESSA’s visibility, created stronger storytelling opportunities and built relationships with reporters who continue to turn to the organization for expertise on survivor safety and prevention.

Throughout our partnership, Next PR secured three placements across broadcast, podcast and print. Coverage included a two-page feature in NORTH Magazine that incorporated an anonymous survivor story to illustrate TESSA’s impact, a local broadcast segment on FOX21 to bring awareness to summer domestic violence and a 35-minute episode on local podcast Loving the Springs that provided a space for a deeper conversation around TESSA’s work and upcoming initiatives.

On the social media front, Next PR wrote 61 LinkedIn posts over six months to help TESSA consistently reach potential donors and community business leaders and showcase its impact. The team also coached TESSA on why a steady posting cadence builds donor and community support.

"Working with Next PR has truly been a joy. The team not only helped elevate TESSA's mission but also brought thoughtful guidance every step of the way. Their ability to recognize what was working, identify areas of opportunity and help us make meaningful course corrections has been invaluable. We are incredibly grateful for their partnership and support."

–Anne Markley, CEO

"Next PR helped affirm that we were headed in the right direction while offering thoughtful adjustments that strengthened our approach, expanded our visibility and polished our communications. The insights and best practices they provided are things we'll continue to carry forward."

–Marissa Bovée, director of development
